Making informed choices

Choosing courses

You will need to do a lot of research to decide on your choices of course. You can use Course Search to find out about the training providers that recruit through the GTTR and their courses. Many of the courses on Course Search have Entry Profiles that provide further information. Training providers websites and prospectuses are also a useful source of information.

To find out more about individual training providers, use our List of providers or our Provider map. Both provide links to the training providers' websites, where you can learn about the services offered, as well as course information, so that you can make a fully informed decision.

If possible, you should contact a student from your country who is doing a postgraduate teacher training course in the UK. The training providers' admissions tutors or the international offices or your local British Council office may be able to put you in touch with someone.

You will probably want to find out even more about the training provider and the course before you accept an offer of a place. Make sure that the course admissions tutor or other representative has answered all of your questions before you accept a place. You can ask them if there is anything to prepare before the course starts.

Course vacancies for international students

A feature of the GTTR scheme is that course providers are able to indicate that a course has no vacancies once it is full. If you apply for a course that has no vacancies, we do not send your application to that provider. Some providers may still have vacancies available for international applicants, however, even though they cannot take any more applications from other students. The reason for this is that publicly funded universities and colleges are required by the government to limit the number of students they accept who normally reside within the UK or EU. However, there are no such restrictions placed on applicants who receive no public funding but pay the full cost of their courses, and on others who would qualifify for international tuition fees.

If you are student who would be classed as international for fees purposes and you wish to apply for a course that is marked as Full on Course Search, please contact the relevant provider for advice on how to apply.

If you are unsure of your fee status, you will find helpful information at www.ukcisa.org.uk.
