GTTR Apply is our application system that allows you to apply online for postgraduate initial teacher training (ITT) and initial teacher education (ITE) courses at:
most universities, colleges of higher education and school-centred initial teacher training (SCITT) consortia in England
most universities and colleges of higher education in Wales
almost all higher education institutions (HEIs) in Scotland.
There is help text available throughout Apply in case you are unsure about some of the details, and the system will warn you about certain mistakes. We ask you to complete the following sections.
All of these sections must be completed before you can send your application to us.
There are two types of help available in Apply. We provide help that gives you an overview about the current page that you are viewing, and specific help for each field that requires you to enter details or to select an option on the screen.
In the next application cycle for 2012 entry you will be able to enter some European characters that are not in the English alphabet in some fields of the following sections of your application: personal details, personal statement (including work experience) and referee details. Your principal referee will also be able to use European characters in your reference. Not all training providers can view these characters correctly, so a version with substituted English characters is also made available to them. If you enter a European character that does not have a valid substitution, we will insert the character '#'.
If you enter a European character in Apply, a warning message will appear on the screen and you will need to view and agree to the substituted characters version of each section in which you have entered European characters.

If you want to apply, you must register first. In this section we need to know your personal details, such as your name, address and date of birth. We also ask you to read and accept the terms and conditions for using Apply. The registration process generates your Personal ID. You need a username and password to log in to Apply. Your username is the email address you provide when you register and you create your own password. Further information is available in the registration section of this website.
Some of this section, such as your name, address and date of birth will be filled in automatically with the details you entered during registration. You should check that all this information is correct. We also ask for further information that the training providers require, such as your nationality and residential status.
If you live in the United Kingdom, we ask you to provide your ethnic origin and national identity. This information helps us and the training providers to monitor equal opportunities in admissions to teacher training. Find out more about additional information.
In this section you enter the courses and training providers to which you are applying. You must enter your choices in your order of preference. We send applications to one training provider at a time for consideration. It is important that you check the information carefully before marking the section as complete. Find out more about choices.
We need to know where you have studied and which qualifications you are taking or have taken. We will ask you to enter details for the schools, colleges and universities you have attended and then to provide information about your qualifications. Please make sure that you have included all relevant qualifications. Training providers may make you an offer based on the information you give so it is vital that it is correct. Find out more about entering details of your education.
We ask you to complete a personal statement, which tells your chosen training providers why you want to become a teacher and why they should want you as a student. We also ask you to provide details of your work experience and any time spent abroad. This statement helps training providers to know more about you as a person. Find out more about how to write a personal statement.
We ask you to check all the information entered on your application and to make any additions or amendments that may be required before you can send an email to your principal referee to ask for a reference.
We ask you to check that you have marked all the sections of your application as complete and saved all the completed sections before you can send an email to your principal referee to ask for a reference.
If you are currently in higher education or you finished your studies in the last five years, training providers ideally require a reference from a university or college tutor. If you completed your higher education more than five years ago, training providers want a reference from somebody who can comment on your suitability for teaching, for example, an employer, training officer or careers adviser. You are responsible for ensuring that your referee completes this section. Find out more information about obtaining a reference.
We ask you to agree to the declaration before you can pay for your application and send it to us. Please read the terms of the declaration carefully before confirming your agreement.
You pay your application fee online using a credit or debit card. Please check the cost of applying section for more information about payment. After you have paid for your application, you can send it to us. When we receive your application, we will process it and send it electronically to your highest choice of training provider that has vacancies. We send you a Welcome letter and a booklet called Your GTTR Welcome Guide that provides information about the application process.
You can only send us one application in each year's application cycle. If you send a second application, it will be cancelled and you will not receive a refund.
