Want to teach art and design?

If you can answer 'yes' to the questions below and you have or will have a relevant degree in an art and design field, then you already have a lot of what it takes to teach art to young people.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Can you bring out the artistic flair that is in all of us, sometimes buried more deeply in some than in others?

  • Can you be the guide, inspirer, illuminator who reveals to young people the exciting, if confusing, landscape of art and design disciplines, to encourage them to explore their own creativity with confidence and self-belief?

  • Have you the inventiveness, stamina and ability to dig deep for new ideas as you develop your own creativity?

  • Have you the passion to unlock the creativity in each and every young person you teach?

As a result of your own art and design experience, do you have

  • a good understanding of the design and creative process?

  • developed powers of observation and sensitivity to the world around you?

  • an ability to think imaginatively and take risks in your work?

  • a belief in the importance of art and design for the individual and within society and an interest in the work and role of other artists and designers?

  • skills in a range of media and techniques?

  • a desire to share your enthusiasm and work with others?

  • a continuing intellectual curiosity and an open mind?

  • an ability to organise your time effectively?

  • a willingness to accept advice?

  • a sense of humour?
