Single Admissions Process for Postgraduate Initial Teacher Training - Consultation

UCAS is currently consulting on proposals for changes to the process for undergraduate admissions to higher education in the UK. As part of the review, and in response to the DfE White Paper Training our next generation of outstanding teachers (June 2011), UCAS has also been working in partnership with the Teaching Agency (TA) to consider the process for application to courses in postgraduate initial teacher training.

The key findings are presented in a consultation document which we published on 10 January 2012. This includes proposals for reform, timeline and the consultation questions.

We are now consulting widely across the education sector on the proposals. Anyone who has an interest in the application process for postgraduate teacher training is welcome to review the consultation document and respond. We would like to understand as fully as possible those aspects of the proposals which you support and those which cause you concern. Where there are perceived problems, we encourage you to put forward preferred solutions.

We are also holding some events to support the consultation. The consultation will remain open until 21 March 2012 and a report of the consultation findings and proposed next steps will be published in May 2012. Whilst we welcome individual views, we would ask that, where possible, you consult with all of the relevant parties internally before submitting one collective response from your organisation. Please use the response form provided.
